12/27/2023 0 Comments The secret society of supervillainsOperating in a darker and far more sinister era than the previous incarnations, the Society is poised to wreak havoc upon the heroes of the DCU.įirst Appearance: The Secret Society of Super-Villains #1 (June 1976) Psycho, Deathstroke the Terminator, Zoom the Reverse Flash, Bizarro, Sinestro, and others. Firmly spearheaded by Lex Luthor and a handful of other masterminds, the revived "Society" includes several villains, now working on a deadlier plan to successfully annihilate virtually every super-hero! It's membership includes the likes of The Cheetah, Dr. However, recent events have led to the recreation of the organization. It seemed like this last escapade was the final chapter of the Secret Society of Super-Villains for some time. But you can't keep the good guys down! Once the Earth-1 Society members learned that their foes wouldn't be wiped out, Ultra's plot unravelled, and all of the SSoSV members found themselves defeated and trapped in limbo. United, the villains succeeded in capturing members of both the JLA and JSA. With a grand plan to wipe out the Justice Society of America, the Humanite assembled from Earth-1: The Cheetah, Killer Frost, The Floronic Man, and The Signalman from Earth-2: The Brain Wave, The Psycho-Pirate, The Monocle, The Mist, and Rag Doll. But a curious new incarnation cropped up, when Earth-2's Ultra-Humanite utilized the group's name for his own alliance.and agenda. And so, the SSoSV went out with a whimper, and not a bang. However, it seems that - like in too many instances - the bad guys can't stay on the same page. The group benefitted from a combination of great leadership, under the likes of Grodd, The Wizard, and even Funky Flashman along with powerful fiends such as Captain Cold, Felix Faust, Star Sapphire, and Sinestro and pure muscle in the form of Blockbuster, Bizarro, and even the Quakemaster - all proved to be a deadly combination for the heroes to battle. From its Sinister Citadel in San Francisco, the SSoSV would ultimately included several super-villains on its roster, including Lex Luthor, Bizarro, and Killer Frost (all familiar foes of Superman!).īattling each other, the JLA, Captain Comet, and The Freedom Fighters, The Secret Society of Super-Villains was one of the most powerful collectives of evil doers in existence. Battling Kalibak, Mantis, and other Fourth World dilemmas, the Secret Society succeeded in establishing its own destiny as an evil variation on the Justice League of America. The sinister collective rebelled, claiming that they would conquer Earth for themselves, and not the likes of Darkseid. Its original roster included The Wizard, Sinestro, Grodd the Super-Gorilla, Copperhead, Star Sapphire, Capatain Cold, Mirror Master, The Shadow-Thief, and a clone of Paul Kirk, Manhunter.
